Doctor Thomas Williams: In His Own Words

Doctor Thomas Williams, the original owner of the home in which MOAH is housed, maintained medical offices in a wing of his home as well as at a separate site in Palo Alto. The MOAH exhibit, which incorporates comments from the letters and papers of Dr. Williams, illuminates the world of a prominent local figure 100 years ago in a setting that recreates Dr. Thomas' office as it might have existed during the time he was in active practice.

The doctor’s office will host a series of changing exhibits that focus on various aspects of the Williams’ family life. Upcoming displays will feature: medicine in the early 20th century, the Williams family’s Stanford connection, their love of the outdoors, Dora William's gardens and other topics. Also featured is a collection of movies, some in early color, taken by the Williams family during a trip to Europe in 1938. A highlight is the birthday celebration for the King of Sweden.

Dr. Williams’ former patient waiting room has been transformed into a children’s discovery and play area. The room will showcase what it was like to have been a child in the early part of the 20th century. Children can try out the 20th century typewriter and can also enjoy playing with vintage toys that have been donated for this purpose by numerous friends. Changing exhibits of antique toys will also delight our young visitors.
